After going through backlash, a spokesperson for the Warner Bros. Movie Group spoke to Selection.
The spokesperson stated, “The map in Barbie Land is a child-like crayon drawing. The doodles depict Barbie’s make-believe journey from Barbie Land to the ‘actual world.’ It was not meant to make any kind of assertion.”
The movie, directed by Greta Gerwig, was set to hit theatres in Vietnam on July 21, aligning with its big-screen launch in most nations all over the world. Vietnam state media, nonetheless, introduced that the film is not going to be launched owing to the map.
“We don’t grant license for the American film Barbie to launch in Vietnam as a result of it accommodates the offending picture of the nine-dash line,” stated Vietnam state-run Tuoi Tre newspaper citing the top Division of Cinema Vi Kien Thanh. Vi Kien Thanh stated the choice was determined by Vietnam’s Nationwide Movie Analysis Council.
